Camp Akeela campers are boys and girls completing grades 4-9 who are seeking a fun-filled, traditional camp
experience that supports their social growth.
Social Skills Development
Parents and teachers typically describe our campers as bright and creative. At the same time, they often struggle
to make meaningful social connections with other children and adolescents. Our campers need practice and guidance
in reading non-verbal cues, exhibiting conversational empathy, or understanding social nuances.
Asperger's Syndrome and Non-Verbal Leaning Disability (NLD)
Many of our campers have been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome
or Non-Verbal Learning Disability (NLD). However,
not all of our campers have diagnoses, receive treatment or are in special education programs. What brings Camp
Akeela's parents together is a shared desire to improve their children's social skills in a small, supportive
environment of their peers.
