Meet the Staff

Jen Link, Head Counselor & Assistant Director
Photo
Jen lives near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and works year-round as Akeela's assistant director. She is responsible for finding and hiring the amazing counselors who make up our summer staff. Jen also helps with camper recruitment, program planning, staff training, communication with camp families, and everything else that goes into making Akeela run smoothly.

Before moving to Philly to join Debbie and Eric, Jen lived in Orlando, Florida where she worked as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst at a charter school for autistic children. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida and her Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Simmons College in Boston, MA. Jen has worked with children and adults with developmental disabilities (autism, Aspergers, PDD, etc) for nearly 15 years. She also worked for 4 summers at Camp Walt Whitman in New Hampshire as a counselor and co-director of the water ski program. She loves anything outdoors and is excited about continuing to spend her summers in Vermont!

Rob Glyn-Jones, Head Counselor
Photo
Rob lives in the north of England, although for the last fourteen years he has spent his summers in the US working at Summit Camp in Pennsylvania. Rob started his camp career there as a counselor in 1996, and for the last eight years has been a Unit Leader working with boys aged between fourteen and eighteen. He has always been drawn to working with children and believes that camp is a fantastic environment for encouraging growth and development - as well as having a great time!

During the rest of the year, Rob works as an actor and workshop leader. A lot of this work takes him into schools and colleges to facilitate issue-based presentations on a wide variety of topics such as anti-social behavior, bullying, community cohesion and drug issues. In his spare time he enjoys cooking, reading, swimming and watching Doctor Who!

Rob can't wait to arrive in Vermont for the summer, and meeting all of the campers and staff at Akeela. He is looking forward to the challenges and experiences that await, and knows that 2010 is going to be great summer.

At Stanford, she was a captain and hammer thrower on the Track and Field team where she was an NCAA national qualifier and academic all-American. In her spare time, Jaynie enjoys spending time with her amazing family, including her four year old nephew and a one year old niece.

Jaynie has been at Camp Akeela since its inception, first as a cabin counselor and now as our Program Director. She can't wait to get back to Akeela to see returning campers, welcome new campers, meet fellow staff members and give a big hug to Tucker!

Jody lives (and hikes and skis) in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, near Lake Tahoe. She has two college-aged children and lives with her husband, Elliott, who hopes to visit Akeela this summer. Jody is lucky enough to be around young people all year, as a school nurse for K - 12th graders. She also works with children with Asperger's at the University of California MIND Institute.

Jody will be returning for her third summer as our Head Nurse. She considers Akeela to be a magical place for campers and staff and can't wait to return to her home away from home!

Tucker Link, Animal Expert

Tucker was born in Plymouth, MA on Sept 22, 2003. He loves French fries, the Red Sox and anything to do with water. When he greets people he likes to have something in his mouth (ball, toy, stick,...). He hides in the bath tub when it thunders or when he hears fireworks. He loves to stick his head out the window while riding in a car or boat. He's very polite (never jumping on people) and absolutely loves to play with campers. Tucker has a PhDog in animal sciences and we're very lucky to have him at camp this summer!
